About
Saintié is a travel guide dedicated to the religious heritage of France and Italy. The idea is simple: a holy place is not a box to tick but the centre of a walk. Around a cathedral or a forgotten chapel, the guide links nearby buildings into a walking route, with the history of each stop.
Sources and licences
OpenStreetMap (ODbL)
The inventory of buildings — churches, cathedrals, chapels, abbeys, wayside crosses — comes from OpenStreetMap, with its tags for dating, denomination and heritage protection.
Wikidata (CC0)
Wikidata complements the entries with structured data: identifiers, precise dates, links to heritage authorities and related articles.
Wikipedia (CC BY-SA)
The history of the place is drawn from French Wikipedia articles, and from Italian Wikipedia for Italian places without a French article. A link to the original article is always shown, as the licence requires.
Google Maps Platform
Maps, walking directions, Street View and photographs are provided live by Google through its API: images are neither copied nor rehosted.
Messes.info
When available, mass times come from Messes.info: always check with the parish before travelling.
Diocese and parish websites
When the OpenStreetMap record lists an official website, a link is offered. Diocese texts are not copied: they remain with their authors.
Known limits
- Entries are generated automatically: a rural chapel may have no historical note, and a date may be missing.
- Opening hours and access inside are not guaranteed: check with the parish or the tourist office.
- Routes are walking suggestions, not official waymarking. Stay careful on country roads.
Transparency: partner links
The « Plan your visit » blocks suggest accommodation, guided tours, transport and gear from partners (Booking.com, GetYourGuide, Civitatis, Omio, Rentalcars, Amazon, Decathlon). These are affiliate links: if you book, the guide earns a commission at no extra cost to you. They never influence which places are selected or the content of the entries.
